So Long BlackBerry, my friend...

Motorola Droid available today at Verizon

I’m not sure anyone really cares, except for hardcore Google Android fans, and the tech obsessed… like me. Sill, in case you haven’t already heard (repeatedly) the new Motorola Android smartphone is now available at Verizon stores. I’m still on the fence. I need to replace my aging, 4-year old BlackBerry.

The iPhone is probably the logical choice. But it would give me (maybe Mike too, getting one…?) something interesting to write about on SSC tech wise… how’s that for decision criteria?

One concern: the Droid looks quite big.

Moto also launched a smaller one today without the keyboard (which gets poor marks) called the Eris with slimmer design. But it runs an older operating system, is slightly slower, and doesn’t include the nifty GPS.

I have a jammed schedule today. But will try to drop by a store and see what’s what.

Looks alot like the HTC that I sold on eBay for more than I paid when I upgraded to an iPhone

  • Jane Lurie says:

iPhone alert..ATT sucks..at least for us on our oldest of old iPhones. We have sudden drop outs often and no service too often. A reliable source told me that the iPhone will open up to new providers after the New Year. I am hoping that this is true. It may be that people with 3G phones are having a better experience then we are but this is my 2 cents.

    • Tracy says:

I am having just as many issues with the 3G. I made the switch from Verizon to AT & T for an iPhone; however, the primary function that I need it for (to make phone calls) is awful due to dropping of calls and poor reception.

  • I picked one up today. Seamless transfer from AT&T (buh bye!). Fantastic Google integration. Everything working in minutes. I have my nits. Maybe I'll write up review in next week or so. Got to head up to Berkeley now for FAT PIG.

  • Jim says:

I bought two online yesterday. One for me and one for my son. As alluring as the iphone is, bottomline – AT&T is a horrible company. All AT&T services are out of my life and then will never return. Whlle the iphone sales seem great, they are a fraction of what they would have been if the iphone was introduced on Verizon.
