Everyday San José: Paintings by Wayne Jiang
Exhibit Runs November 27, 2009 through May 30, 2010

San José, CA—September 29, 2009—Wayne Jiang, one of California’s Bay Area emerging artists, will show recent work featuring San José’s cityscapes and luminous nighttime scenes. The exhibit runs from November 27, 2009 to May 30, 2010 at the Leonard and David McKay Gallery at the Pasetta House at History Park in San José.

Everyday San José: Paintings by Wayne Jiang includes more than 25 contemporary paintings that capture San José’s people, buildings and interiors, imbuing them with Jiang’s trademark tranquility, solitude and mystery.

“This is a breakthrough exhibit for Wayne,” said Alida Bray, President and CEO at History San José.  “Wayne’s talent is particularly pertinent to our affiliate, the Chinese Historical & Cultural Project and their Chinese American Museum at History Park.”

Jiang was born in Guangzhou, China and came to the United States at the age of 15.  He earned a degree in illustration from San Jose State University and works as a graphic designer and fine artist.  He lives in Pacifica.

“Wayne’s paintings frequently evoke a sense of solitude and stillness,” said Sarah Puckitt, Curator of Art and Photography at History San José.  “He captures each scene in its unique moment, and like the 17th century Dutch painters who inspire him, simple commonplace objects and scenes are considered as worthy of the artist’s attention as dramatic and spectacular subjects. These paintings must be seen live to be appreciated fully.”

“He also has painted our light tower and other scenes from History Park, so we’re especially honored to have an artist of his rank interpret our icons”, added Bray.

Jiang has exhibited at the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara, Euphrat Museum of Art in Cupertino, The Art Museum of Los Gatos, d.p. Fong Gallery in San Jose, Solomon Dubnick Gallery in Sacramento, Pence Gallery in Davis and the Sanchez Art Center in Pacifica.  He has also shown his work at Heritage Bank of Commerce, Santa Cruz County Bank and Monterey Peninsula College.

The exhibit is open Saturdays and Sundays 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will run through May 30, 2010.  History Park is open Tuesdays through Sundays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and O’Brien’s Ice Cream Parlor and the Gift Shop is open n11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Visit historysanjose.org for schedules and events.
