‘Goldfish’ review, ‘Groundswell’ opens Friday
It’s been a busy week for Bay Area theater. Last weekend we saw three good shows: ‘The Glass Menagerie’ (review) at the scenic Coastal Repertory Theatre, ‘The Chosen’ (review) at TheatreWorks, and ‘Goldfish’ (review) at Magic Theatre.
All were strong, which, again, bodes well for us fans of theater and stage. As they say: there is something for everyone.
My favorite of the trio, if I had to chose, would be ‘Goldfish.’ This is another unique play by the always interesting Magic Theatre. The fact that Blue Angels buzzed around us when we took in the show only added to the mystique that is tier 1 regional theater. Plus the presence of Rod Gnapp is increasingly becoming a reason to expect memorable acting.
Tomorrow is opening night for San Jose Rep’s second production of the ’09/10 season, Groundswell.
It looks very interesting: a small cast of 3 fine actors, South African setting and playwright, and told in real-time a la 24. If you missed it, Loni sat down with the cast and director in a recent episode of StarkSilverCreek Presents. Part 2 is coming soon.
