2010 Loreto Calendar: Announcing the 14 finalists (preorder deadline today)
It’s been a late night, plenty of wine and much discussion between Clint and I as we narrowed down the photo submissions to the final 14 for the 2010 Loreto Calendar which will benefit the children of the Internado School in Loreto. Fourteen photos because we have twelve months, the front cover and also a bonus preview section of the 2011 year.
Here’s a sneak peak into what the calendar looks like. Don’t forget to pre-order yours!
For each month, there is a beautiful photo of Loreto, BCS selected from an incredible number of photos that were submitted to the 2010 Loreto Calendar. Below the photo is a quote by the photographer of the photo. For example, for January, Annie Omens writes:
“I am always amazed at the beautiful colors at sunset and sunrise in Loreto Beach. I tried to capture their richness in this photo.”
Here is the gallery of the 14 finalists for the 2010 Loreto Calendar whose net proceeds will benefit the children of the Internado School in Loreto, BCS. Drum roll please!
It was unfortunate we only had room for 14. We had to make some hard decisions and some photos could not be included because there wasn’t a high-resolution version of them (3MB or larger/3,300 pixels wide in order to print 8 1/2 x 11 calendar).
However, we took one of Chris Sessions great suggestions and for all calendars that are pre-ordered by October 16 (end of today), you will be guaranteed (to the best of the little elves’ abilities) to get a calendar which on the back cover, includes a gallery of 10 other photos that made it to the top 24 finalists and 2 bonus wild card picks.
Why do you ask this is only made available for pre-orders?
It’s because in order for us to provide this calendar design, we needed to go with a calendar printing vendor who gives favorable pricing for large quantities. Currently, with about 58 calendar pre-orders, I am thinking of ordering 100 calendars. Any fewer quantities and the costs skyrocket (eg. $15-28) leaving very little (or a loss) to benefit this year’s charity or forcing us to have to raise the prices of the calendar. Neither option is favorable.
Therefore, if this “limited” edition get’s sold-out, then all subsequent calendar orders will be fulfilled through another vendor which allows for more on-demand printing of smaller quantities, but does not have such flexibility in the calendar templates for a back cover photo gallery.
I plan to send this version of the calendar to the printers this Saturday. So if a bunch more people order the calendar before the, I could make sure I ordered enough to fulfill the demand in the first batch.
Okay, time for the elves to go to bed!

Absolutely great job Loni and Clint!! The pictures chosen are both artistically beautiful and wonderful images of the Loreto area. I love the back cover solution too and although I've already pre-ordered, I think I'll order some more. This was a huge task selecting between all those fantastic photos. Thank you for doing this for the community and for providing a venue to share the captured beauty of our dream. You guys are the best!!
Cathy
Thanks Cathy for the support. The photos this year were amazing. I looked at the back cover gallery after I finished and thought, "This selection would have made a beautiful calendar as well!"
We knew we would get some great photos when we opened this year's calendar to submissions by the Loreto community. However, the quality of all the photos exceeded all my expectations.
As of my last count (I hope I am right), we have 113 calendar orders! I will definitely be ordering more than 100 calendars.
I am so glad everyone is getting their orders as I really do want to fulfill everyone's order with this version of the calendar which has the back cover gallery and the wonderful quotes. Since every calendar will contribute about $9 to benefit the children of the Internado school in Loreto, we will keep trying to fulfill demand if you all keep ordering them. However, noted above, the pre-order will be guaranteed to get this limited edition version.
Also, for those that got last year's calendar, one thing we did decide to keep was the type of binding as it allows the calendar to hang nicely.
Applause all around for a great calendar and a very special thanks to Loni and Clint who really made this happen. Very exciting, indeed, to have a couple of images included with these other high quality photos, each with a special story behind them.
I must admit, I've been inspired how this community has come together to unselfishly offer their time and talents to benefit the children of the Internado School in Loreto, BCS. I'm happy I had he opportunity to play a small part.
Loreto Bay Villages, with all the ups and downs, has the right type of people to make things better and make a difference. There's no question, Loreto is a very special place.
I hope you all have been inspired as much as I have. I'm sure our paths will cross sometime, somewhere, wandering the streets, swimming in the pool, paddling in the ocean, hiking up in the mountains or sipping a margarita at the bar. I'll have my camera in hand of course, for next year's calendar so look your best.
Peace
I hope others have been inspired
Hi David – Thank you for contributing your photography skills to this endeavor. I just hope my layout skills and the calendar printers does everyone's photos justice.
To date, we have 151 Loreto Calendar orders. This is incredible and completely surpasses last year's efforts. I will be tallying up totals on how much we have raised soon and update all of you.
Loni
Outstanding Loni and Clint! Let's keep getting the word out to benefit the children…I've linked things up to Facebook a couple times on my wall. Thanks for all the effort from everyone involved.
All – Quick update. More details to come. I just sent the calendar to the printer last night. They told me I should get a proof copy of it next week. Once I get it, I'll share a preview of it with all of you.
I am sooo excited!
Loni
Fanastic layout, I love the font and the cover is beautiful! Just ordered 10, a bargain at $20 to help those kids. Will spread the word as well and hope more get sold. Thank you for helping and all your hard work.
