SubZERO 2009: A mashup of art, technology and passion in the heart of San Jose
Yesterday, I decided to drop by the second annual SubZero event in downtown San Jose. The event took place on First Street between San Carlos and Reed Street from 5 pm to midnight. It was my first time at this event and I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was more than pleasantly surprised.
Unlike some of the wine and art events around the San Francisco Bay Area that are fun, but once you’ve seen one you’ve pretty much seen them all, the SubZero event showcased some pretty eclectic and unusual pieces of art infused with technology. Sometimes the artists were works of art themselves.
I did notice many times my engineering and marketing background come through when I asked questions such as, “Are there any practical applications for this?” To which I was promptly reminded that art is an end unto itself. I stand corrected.
