Villa Group talks about Loreto and Baja resort developments on Loreto Live
Villa Group has a large presence in Baja, dating back 25 years. Loni spent some time with Mario Cortes, project director, to get a first hand update on what’s happening in Loreto resort development.

Is there a concern that Villa Group in adding another golf course to the area with associated irrigation requirements will add to the depletion of the aquifier levels in the area of Loreto?
That’s a good point Tony. We’ll forward it to Villa Group and see if they have a response. Also, in future we should ask these types of questions on the Loreto Live podcasts.

Villa Group is a well established developer in the Baja. I suspect they researched water prior to starting the development. In addition if you do not know the structure of the aquifers in the Loreto area you may look stupid for asking. You may also want to see if you can find out if they intend to use effluent and or install a de-sal plant. Coming to the Baja and spouting California Crap every time a development starts is probably something you might want to rethink.

YOU suspect that Villa Group researched the water issue? Villa Group’s previous projects have not a WHIT of sustainable concepts, conservation oriented or preservation of the natural environment in any of their projects. Developments in Baja CA DEMAND that everyone – resident, visitor, developer, municipal government, environmental NGO – ask these questions. Villa Group and other developers only look at the bottom line – THEIR PERSONAL BANK ACCOUNT. Get real. To not ask and not demand answers, and not demand accountability, is negligence, for which Baja CA suffers. I’ll bet you that because Villa Group did NOT adequately research this project, that it will be stalled, downsized or scrapped altogether.
I may know a little about it. But are you saying the the Villa Group is going to pump out of this aquifer at a rate of 1 million gallons per day? Highly unlikely. I would probably be more concerned about San Bruno as it sits right on the aquifer not to mention the amount of irrigated turf on the redesigned course at Loreto Bay which was totally unnecessary. Good luck with your assult on the “Developer’s Bank Account” in Mexico. I think you are correct to become involved as it is a fragile area. However “Demanding and Assuming” are two concepts that may not do well down there.
