Loreto Guide: Furniture and household goods section updated

Loreto, Baja City Hall

Based on the email questions we have been getting and the fact that our home in Loreto Bay is coming close to completion, I figured it was time to start thinking about furnishings for the home.

I’ve put off this task for several reasons:

  1. There is great uncertainty to when homes get completed in Loreto Bay, following the true spirit of mañana so I didn’t want to deal with having furniture ready before our home was completed.

  2. I wanted to spend some time considering various options within Loreto, Rosarita and Guadalajara and frankly didn’t have the time or energy to do a thorough assessment during 2008.

  3. I wanted to have our Nueva Chica completed and walk through it to understand the space in 3-D before I ordered furniture. For example, one idea from Sharon D. I liked was putting in built-ins that spanned the entire vertical height of the casa, taking advantage of the high ceilings.

  4. Although we signed up for the rental program, I was skeptical of how adequate or attractive our unit would be until the construction of our cluster was completed. This is something we have been seeing from discussions in Founder’s. There is definitely demand for units, but they need to be in areas where the heavy construction is complete. Makes common sense for anyone that has stayed at a hotel that was under construction…not pleasant.

The first step I have taken on our journey to figuring out furnishing of our place was to collect all the vendors mentioned from various sources into one list. Since this blog is all about sharing information and experiences, I’ve updated the “Furniture and household goods” section of the StarkSilverCreek Loreto Guide with the vendors I’ve collected.

If you have one that I may have missed, please send us a note. If you are a vendor and are not listed or have more information you would like us to post, let us know as well. You can email us or contact us using this contact form.

One item that we have found to be “needed” is additional “hooks” to hang towels, robes, etc in the bath rooms. There was one hook on the back of the bathroom door.

While Ginax was doing some warrantee work on our home, and knowing that Ginax was the builder and the outfit that did a lot of the iron work (stair cases, railings etc) I asked if I could purchase additional hooks and an additional towel bar for one bathroom.

The answer was of course. The towel bar, while silightly different in size than the original that was in place looks essentially the same. The hooks were identical to what was there.

The cost, $34 for the towel bar and $20 (each) for the large hooks, installation included.

Ann Brown of Founders 489 has also tracked down a vendor that sells the same bathroom hardware for our Loreto Bay homes (just in case Ginax stops offering that post construction item). I have ordered additional towel bars, towel rings & hooks through her. Her email address is: ann@the4browns.com if anyone is interested.
