La Mision Hotel, Loreto Baja: Mission Impossible?

by Loni Kao Stark (@lonikaostark) | 11.07.08 | Comments (3)

La Mision Loreto 03
Site of La Mision Hotel in Loreto, Baja. Still a lot of work to be done for a hotel that is accepting reservations for their Grand Opening on November 17, 2008.

Back in mid October, we profiled the new hotel opening in Loreto, ‘La Mision’ (La Mision Hotel in Loreto, Baja Mexico Grand Opening November 2008). At the time, Paula P. commented that she and George were in Loreto and La Mision was still a construction zone.

Well, after a visit along the beautiful Malecon in Loreto, I would have to agree that the Grand Opening date now pushed to November 17 from earlier in November is still ambitious, if not impossible.

For those of us that have waited on the construction of our homes in Loreto Bay, one can sympathize that these projects can take longer than anticipated.

I did notice that the right portion of the hotel was significantly further along and they may be doing a soft launch with this part of the complex.

Another new item I noticed on their website is a $200 discount to visit La Mision to hear about their vacation ownership program. You are expected to attend a 90 minute presentation and then receive the $200 USD to apply towards tours and activities, spa services, car rentals, telephone services, room service, and food and beverages.

There is an online form that must be completed with acknowledgement of the terms & conditions. The key qualifications is that you have to:

  • attend the 90 minute presentation on the second day of arrival
  • be english or spanish speaking citizens of USA or Canada
  • be between ages of 28-60.
  • own at least one major credit card and provide photo ID.

This seems like standard qualifications as it was the same for the timeshare presentation of the Villa Group development Clint and I attended (details on this to follow in a future post).

I wasn’t aware they were planning to offer a timeshare/vacation program. Wonder if this was always part of the plan or new.

Regardless of the offering being just a night stay in the hotel or a larger vacation program commitment, November 17 is extremely aggressive, but I can’t fault them for trying. I guess never underestimate the power of positive thinking.

Sign posted at the construction site. There were quite a number of construction workers on site on October 31, 2008 when we took these photos.

    Hi Clint and Loni,

Thanks for maintaining such a thorough and entertaining blog. The timely information on Loreto shops, events and developments is much appreciated.

I wanted to clarify that what appears in the above photos to be the right wing of La Mision Hotel is actually a separate project called Tesoro de Loreto. I understand it to be an 11-unit condominium project that is very near completion. Unfortunately I do not have more to share as I was unable to connect with the developer on my recent trip to Loreto.

    Best,
    Greg

  • Hi Greg – Clint and I just got an email from John P. clarifying the same thing.

Appreciate the corrections that our readers send in!

The website for the development is at http://www.tesororealty.net/.

The units start at $399,000/full ownership with floor plans ranging from 1600 to 2400 sq feet. The website shows completion date of April 2009 but as you can tell from the photos, there still seems to be finishing work taking place.

Floorplans and features can be accessed at this link: http://www.tesororealty.net/floorplans.php

What is interesting is that all units seem to span the entire depth of the building so there is ocean views for all units.

On the same site they also note the construction of a storage facility “Tesoro Storage” to offer 12′x40′ lockers which will be free for 2 years with the purchase of the condo.

The interior design seems to be per American standards. The arches in the balconies do echo the ones on La Mision Hotel and the distance between the two building is very small. Wonder if this is to maintain architectural consistency or Tesoro Realty trying to draft off the interest and marketing of La Mision.

This is a long comment – perhaps it warrants a blog post!

    Loni

P.S. Thanks John P. for the tip.

My partner & I ate at the Mission Hotel last night and we had an excellent meal, very nice Willamette Valley Pinot Noir and attentive service. We met the designer and she is doing a superb job of furnishing and finishing the already impressive shell. This is setting a new standard for Loreto. I am a custom home designer at Loreto Bay and I welcome another skilled designer to our area, check this out for yourselves, we were very pleased.
