New Loreto Bay Logo – Miami Vice Meets Baja
Being a marketing vp here in the valley means I get to lead all kinds of marketing organizations and products. But it seems that nothing draws on heart strings more than a logo. Or as the NY and SF crowd call it… branding.
So it was a small surprise yesterday when I received an email from Loreto Bay (promoting an upcoming homeowner’s weekend) with what appears to be a new corporate logo. My first reaction: Miami Vice. This apparently new logo brings back a lot of 80’s nostalgia. Don’t get me wrong – I love new wave, Testarossas, Wall Street, and Scarface, but not necessarily when we’re talking about Baja, Sea of Cortes, vacation homes, and beaches.
Take a look, and you be the judge.
CURRENT LORETO BAY LOGO:

- Classy, unique border shape
- Evokes mission, sense of history
- Great use of color
- Property starts $400K+
NEW LORETO BAY LOGO (unconfirmed):
- 80’s Miami Vice
- Dated look, clunky
- Colors are horrid
- Property starts $4,000+

I completely agree! The new one (if it is indeed new) is just awful. It just looks cheap. The other one feels so much more solid.
Yes, I agree. Gives me the impression that Loreto Bay is one of those generic timeshare condo developments in Mexico…which it is not. The new logo does not convey how special Loreto Bay is. Love the development, don’t like the logo. For once, Clint and I agree :-).
I’m in agreement. The “old” logo provides a bit of a historic sense with the Mission, plus it conveys the “sun” with the color. Things you thing of when thinking Mexico.
We are amazed and disgusted with the new logo. We liked the old logo and the sense of warmth it conveyed. It costs an enourmous amount of money to create a brand, and the old logo is readily identifiable. Money spent. Now they want to spend it again on an inferior product? Up until now, I thought marketing was the one thing they could do well. My Prognostication: Citigroup will keep the old logo.
Either way, it would be nice if they completed the name of the Mexican state that the development is in. “Baja” is nothing. Baja California Sur, is the name of the state in Mexico where the Loreto Bay project is. These ignorant Canadians don’t know anything about Baja CA, and are only exploiting the area for their own financial gain. There is nothing sustainable about the development.
There is hope! Just read on the Loreto Bay homeowner forum that Loreto Bay is only testing out different logos/branding. So there is still hope that the old logo will survive. If you are a homeowner or prospective one and like the old logo, let Loreto Bay know!
